Vascular Disease of the Legs

8 Million Americans Suffer from Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

PAD, which occurs when blood vessels feeding the legs become blocked by atherosclerotic lesions, results in pain while walking. PAD can evolve to more severe forms of the disease where circulation to the foot and leg become so reduced that amputation of the toes, foot, or legs is the only alternative. This disease increases in prevalence as people age or in patients with diabetes.

Our treatment objective in patients with PAD is to grow new blood vessels in the legs around the blockage, and thereby reestablish blood flow to the ischemic leg muscles. CVBT will begin Phase I clinical trials in 2007.
